Optomi, in partnership with one of the largest automotive financing companies, is seeking a JavaScript Developer responsible for driving technical investigation, requirements definition, vendor coordination, and cross-team delivery within the Payments Engineering organization. The role operates across a portfolio of concurrent initiatives spanning vendor integrations, platform modernization, and payment-experience delivery - providing dedicated systems-level ownership of work that bridges engineering, product, operations, and external partners.

What the right candidate will enjoy!

  • The ability to work remotely 2 days a week!
  • The opportunity to provide full time ownership of the technical investigation, requirements exploration, documentation, and cross-team coordination necessary to advance the Payments Engineering Portfolio!
  • The ability to grow and transition with the role over time!

Experience of the right candidate:

  • Strong software engineering background.
  • Deep understanding of REST APIs, semantics, and integration patterns.
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS preferred).
  • Proficient with observability tooling.
  • Deep understanding of distributed system behavior.
  • Experience in financial services, payments, or banking.
  • Familiarity with payment concepts (ACH, wires, real-time payments, settlement, returns).
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Developer Associate or AWS Solutions Architect Associate.
  • Has a modern technology stack over a traditional bank stack.
  • Proficient with JavaScript/ TypeScript, Java, and Python.
  • Experience with serverless architecture patterns.

Responsibilities of the right candidate:

  • Investigate vendor APIs, platform behaviors, and integration patterns to identify gaps, undocumented constraints, and failure modes.
  • Produce clear technical documentation including sequence diagrams, error flow mappings, API inventories, requirements specifications, and decision records.
  • Own the documentation lifecycle for assigned workstreams - keeping materials current as understanding evolves and new information surfaces.
  • Translate findings into actionable requirements consumable by engineering, product, vendor, and operations teams.
  • Maintain traceability from observed behavior and business need through documented requirement and implementation.
  • Define current-state and future-state process flows, system interactions, data flows, control points, and exception scenarios for assigned payment experiences.
